Date

In the presence of His Excellency Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Qasabi, Minister of Social Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Social Studies and Research, the Center held a workshop in Riyadh on Wednesday, 15/5/1437 AH, entitled "Establishing Social Observatories and Developing Their Indicators." The workshop was organized in cooperation with the International Center for Research and Studies (Medad) and with support from Al-Aradi Charitable Endowment. It reflects the importance of comprehensive social development and its continuity and sustainability through the establishment of social-development observatories across the Kingdom and the creation of indicators to measure, monitor and evaluate progress toward objectives using reliable, systematic and objective measures of reality. Prof. Dr. Saleh Al-Nassar, Director General of the Center, stated in his opening remarks that one of the Center's objectives is the periodic monitoring of social phenomena and issues in Saudi society using scientific methodologies that provide officials with deeper understanding of the phenomena and their importance from local and global perspectives. The workshop also aims to involve experts and specialists in preparing a scientific guide for establishing social-development observatories in the Kingdom's regions in cooperation with regional governorates and Saudi universities, and to design indicators and methodologies for measuring social development in the Kingdom.&nbsp
