Preamble:
Social policy plays a prominent role and an effective contribution to establishing and directing welfare support and social welfare in society. The concept of social policy has gone beyond social welfare programs directed to those in poverty or deprivation, and persons with disabilities who are unable to fully participate in economic conditions and systems, to include various programs and services provided in educational, health and cultural fields, whether provided to individuals, groups and societies living in difficult circumstances or more generally. The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia undertakes the implementation of social policies, programs and services directed to the poor and disadvantaged.

Preamble:

The World Health Organization defines quality of life as an individual’s perception of their place in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live. Standard indicators of quality of life include wealth, employment, environment, physical and mental health, education, leisure, leisure, social affiliation, religious beliefs, safety, security, and freedom.

The Quality of Life Program launched by the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 is concerned with improving the quality of life for the individual and the family by creating the necessary environment to support and develop new options that enhance the participation of citizens, residents and visitors in cultural, recreational, sports and tourism activities and other appropriate patterns that contribute to enhancing the quality of life of the individual and family, generating jobs, and diversifying economic activity, and enhancing the position of Saudi cities in the ranking of the best global cities. The Quality of Life Program includes 10 main strategic goals, six of which are related to social affairs:

  1. Promote the practice of sports activities in the community.
  2. Develop and diversify leisure opportunities to meet the needs of the population.
  3. Improving the living conditions of expatriates.
  4. Improving the urban landscape in Saudi cities.
  5. Strengthening society’s immunity to drugs.

Preamble:

The phenomenon of drug abuse is one of the most prominent in the world, according to many specialized international reports, including the United Nations reports. In 2017, the use of opiate drugs reached 53 million, an increase of 56 percent over previous estimates. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – which is an integral part of this world – is no longer immune from the problem of drugs, their spread, abuse and dependence.  The Ministry of Interior in the Kingdom announced in 2017 that during the past six months of that year, there were seizures of more than 21 million Captagon tablets, 19 tons of hashish, 12 kilograms of raw heroin and 219 kilograms of cocaine. This resulted in serious negative problems and effects on the religious, family, social, psychological, professional and economic aspects of society.

Preamble:

Achieving social justice requires a socially equitable distribution of basic social benefits and equal opportunities for all. This requires removing barriers to empowering disadvantaged groups to benefit from their capacities to participate in the decisions that affect their lives. With the exacerbation of poverty and social and economic problems, the importance of social justice emerges as a necessary condition for development, in order to address economic, social and environmental issues. In light of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, the importance of studying the challenges and obstacles facing building a social economy that enhances community partnership is highlighted.

Preamble:

Retirement is the last leg of an employee’s life, whether he is a government employee or in the private sector. Retirement may be according to the regular age or early retirement. Whatever the case, the retirement stage is an important stage in a person’s life and requires special attention, whether at the financial, social or health level.

Retirees in the Kingdom, according to recent estimates, amount to 990,577 people. Without a doubt, retirees, due to their age, require special care in the pre- and post-retirement stages. They are also a group of society that has devoted its youth to community service, and it is time for appreciation and care.

Preamble:

According to the World Bank (2019) around a third (36%) of those in poverty around the world have escaped from extreme poverty due to the support programs provided by social safety net groups through food, medicine, relief, shelter, health care, education and others, which increases opportunities for equality between people. Yet one in five people lacks social safety net coverage.

In order to achieve social justice and equality for all, it is necessary to review policies and decisions that would address economic and social problems and enhance the role of social safety nets.

Communities witnessed a considerable increase in what are known as social networking applications that can be downloaded onto smart devices. These have contributed to the formation of a wide network of virtual social relationships for the individual, with the ability to communicate easily with others via these online services. These applications have facilitated new ways of marketing and advertising, as well as the ability to virtually inform and change public opinion on numerous aspects of society.

Preamble:

The crime of trafficking in persons is a transnational organized crime, which is based on the recruitment, transportation, harboring and reception of persons by means of threat of force, or other forms of coercion and kidnapping, or fraud and deception with the aim of exploitation, including sexual exploitation, or the exploitation of labor for the purpose of benefiting through them. Trafficking in persons is a heinous violation of human rights because it robs individuals of their freedom and erodes their dignity. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia occupies an advanced position in the classification of the indicator of combating trafficking in persons, thanks to the great efforts that have been reflected in the development of the legal structure in the field of protection against trafficking in persons. Research is needed to learn about the efforts made to combat these crimes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
